Main Street

At the August meeting, Judy North of Crawfordsville Main Street, assisted by Kara Edie, explained their program. It began in 1999 as the Downtown Revitaliztion committee and became Crawfordsville Main Street in 2002. They are the “only advocate for this district,” Judy reported. The organization sponsored the development of the Marie Canine Plaza and the Freedom Clock Plaza. They sponsor various downtown activities, including Lunch and the Plaza, Downtown Party Night, Girls Day Out, and a Plein Air Paintout. They have seen $39 million in investment in the downtown since 1999 and 65% of that has been private investment.

Judy invited everyone to come to the Marie Canine Plaza on august 21 for lunch and entertainment. The lunch is $6.00 and is catered by a downtown restaurant. It is an opportunity to “meet and greet.”

Parliamentary Tip

This month Parliamentarian Nancy Gegner presented Parliamentary Tip
She said it is “totally disorderly” to say the following three things:

1. “so moved.” Better to state the actual motion.

2. “I move to table.” Better to say, “I move to lay on the table.” Or, “I move to postpone indefinitely.”

3. “Question!” Better to say, “I call for the question.” Nancy noted this is a separate motion and requires a 2/3 vote to pass.

Parliamentary procedure gives a form to fairness. Mastering it helps us to be better citizens in any meeting.

The Jennie Scott Award was established to recognize a BPW/Indiana member who has made the greatest contributions toward BPW in her own local club.

She suggested a phone call, coffee, or lunch. She even gave suggestions for conversation starters. So………if you get a Getting to Know You call, take advantage of an opportunity to get to know a BPW member better.
